About

Marina Naprushkina is an artist, feminist and activist. Her diverse artistic practice includes video, performance, drawing, installation and text. Naprushkina works mostly outside of institutional spaces, in collaboration with communities and activist organisations. Naprushkina focuses on creating new formats, structures and organisations based on self-organisation and the intersection of theory and practice.
In 2007 she founded the Office for Anti Propaganda, which critically questions the power structures inherent in nation-states. In 2013, Naprushkina co-founded the initiative Neue Nachbarschaft/Moabit, which aims to create a strong community of people with and without migration and asylum backgrounds, and serves as a commons space based on migrant self-organisation, where art has become a key means of communication.
Naprushkina received the ECF Princess Margriet Award for Culture (2017) and the Sussmann Artist Award (2015). She participated a.o. in the Kyiv Biennial (2023 and 2017), the 7th Berlin Biennial (2011), the 11th Istanbul International Biennial (2009). Together with Nadira Husain, Naprushkina is part of a professorial duo at Universität der Künste Berlin.
Other recent exhibitions include Kunsthaus The Other Re-Imagine the Future at Kunsthaus Graz (2023), SURVIVAL KIT 13 at the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art (2022), Statecraft, at EMST – National Museum of Contemporary Art (2022), In the beginning was the deed! at Galeria Arsenał in Białystok (2021), Every day. Art. Solidarity. Resistance. at Mystetskyi Arsenal in Kyiv (2021) and von Brot, Wein, Autos, Sicherheit und Frieden at Kunsthalle Wien (2020).

Public projects and initiatives:

Neue Nachbarschaft /Moabit (New Neighborhood/Moabit) is a migrant based association, started as a self-organising community in 2013 the Berlin. Through the artistic practices the members create a social fabric that crosses boundaries in a participatory, non-paternalistic way and act against discrimination and marginalisation.

Moabit Mountain College  brings academics and professional artists together with autodidacts and self-taught artists to make art and social engagement accessible to people from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.

Refugees‘ Library an archive on courtroom sketches dedicated to asylum and migration politics.
